My name is Caz Taylor and I’m the proud Owner and Founder of a unique maternity gifting service called Taylor’d Bundles.
Wife to my wonderful husband James, and Mummy to two brilliant kids; Florence (a ‘nearly’ 5 year old) and Elliott (10 months), I’ve spent the last 4 years creating a business that gives me a realistic work/life balance. Not only do I have the flexibility that families long after, but when I’m working, I spend the majority of my days organising beautiful presents that in many instances, are a baby’s first ever gift. How lovely is that?
On a day today basis, I work alongside my 20+ strong design team creating unique gifts for Mums and babies. I personally hand wrap each and every bundle & organise delivery for the customer too. As part of the service, we also promise that each bundle is received within 7 working days or less, removing the long lead times that are normally associated with luxury handmade gifts.
Using my 13 years of Marketing experience and contacts, I’ve been able to cherry pick the best individuals to work alongside to help create my brand, my website and products which has made the whole process fun and exciting which definitely helps when the pressure is on. When I look back, it took me nearly 2 years to find the best collaborators to work alongside (which now feels like a lifetime ago), but after taking the time to get the products just right, it was on the 1st May 2014 that I officially launched the business online and within two shops, and can honestly say I haven’t looked back.
I have a large and loyal customer base who place repeat orders week in and week out, and have also been fortunate enough to have created bundles for staff in businesses such as Revlon, Hasbro, YMCA to name just a few. So, if you’re responsible for organising gifts for anyone who is soon to welcome a new baby into the world, please do get in touch as it takes minutes to order a gift that will be genuinely treasured for years to come.
Why did you start Taylor’d Bundles?
During my career in Marketing, I always found myself being ‘that’ person who was asked to organise maternity gifts for staff & clients, but time and time again, I found the choice of gifts available for new Mums and babies to be very disappointing. I had always strived to be the person who sent ‘that’ new baby gift which was remembered for all the right reasons. However, after years of looking, I never came across a service that offered quite what I was after, until now. Inspired by the beautiful gifts that we received when Florence was born, it was my aim to create gifts that genuinely made people smile.
At the start how did you go about managing your time between Flo and Taylor’d Bundles? How has it changed now that you have Elliott?
The great thing with an online business is I can work whenever and from wherever I need to. When I first launched the business, Flo was at nursery 4 days a week so I had this time to really kick start the business (how lucky I was then!) When other orders or enquiries came through outside of this time, I spent evenings and weekends catching up on what needed to be done.
Now with Elliott in tow, I have less time than before but have found that planning ahead is key to getting everything done. Scheduling social media posts, writing blogs in advance and working more in the evenings is becoming more the norm, however I am also aware that not everyone works the hours I do, so where possible, I like to organise as many meetings as I can in one day to make the most of any days when I’m out and about.
How have your children shaped or defined Taylor’d Bundles and its products?
Quite simply put; had we not had Florence, Taylor’d Bundles would not have happened.
It was her arrival that kick started my thinking about the service, but even since then, my children have helped further shape a huge amount. The names, the products themselves, the themes have all been created around experiences with them in mind. For example, the idea for the ‘Sibling’ bundle collection came when we were expecting Elliott.
I experienced first-hand, how sending out gifts for the existing children was just as important as celebrating the arrival of the new baby. It can be an unsettling time knowing a new child is about to make an appearance, so by making your oldest feel special and part of the whole experience, is so incredibly important.
How do you currently go about promoting Taylor’d Bundles?
Word of mouth has been incredibly valuable for us as a business as we get a lot of business through recommendations or from the people who actually receive the bundles themselves, but as this is very much out of my control, social media has been key. Blogging, tweeting, posting updates and promoting new products online via social media platforms such as Facebook is a great way to get any messages we want to promote, out there quickly and to the right audience. I also do a lot of analysis through google analytics and online dashboards to see the reach of our message and how much they have been shared. With the support of our loyal customer base and the collaborators, as and when our posts do get shared, we undoubtedly get new followers, likes which we have found later turn into sales.
How has Taylor’d Bundles changed your view of family life?
I can’t tell you how different I view my work/life balance. The truth is, I never had a balance until now. A work/life balance felt all too far-fetched; to be able to work and get everything done that was needed, not miss out on family life and enjoy both at the same time seemed very unrealistic but I feel that for the most time, I’m lucky enough to have got it just right. Yes, there are manic days but there’s nothing quite like being in charge of your time and ultimately, happiness. If something needs to be parked for me to attend a Christmas show, or to take Flo or Elliott to a class, I simply rearrange my time to fit in with what’s needed to be done. I’m lucky enough to still be at the size of business where I can flex my time accordingly.
In the next year where would you like to be with Taylor’d Bundles?
In the next 12 months, I would ideally like to be working more in the day and less at night, with a larger support team. I have big plans afoot to expand the business which will be launched within this time, so if we were to be sending out more bundles, and have expanded our customer base, I would be incredibly happy with that. If I also had made enough money to buy lots of designer shoes, that wouldn’t be bad either so watch this space.
