Every business needs clients/customers to provide the oxygen (turnover) to make the wheels of commerce turn. So why would I say that leadership is more important?
Leadership is the intrinsic ingredient that is needed to translate the average into the outstanding.
Without clear decisive, nurturing, visionary, focussed and fair leadership a business cannot deliver the kind of service to its customers that they really want in order to come back time after time. Look at all of the leaders in the world of business- Apple boss Steve Jobs (deceased) – A strong visionary leader who could clearly articulate HOW he wanted his customers to “feel” when they experienced the products that Apple created.
Sir Stuart Rose- A level headed, Enigmatic and driven person who turned around Marks & Spencer when it did not know what it was or what it had to offer. He KNEW how he wanted the team in-store to deliver the message he had created.
Finally a leader who is not a business man or a person who one would associate with making people feel good as he spoke from his heart and based on his deeply held beliefs of fairness, equality and justice. The late great Nelson Mandela- This man oozed LEADERSHIP- he was a softly spoken man who had a clear vision, created a desire within his people to make it a reality. This was a man who suffered the kind of abuse that not many of us can even imagine – however he prevailed.
The amount that you grow your business is directly proportional to the level of consciousness that you develop around leadership, vision, values and most importantly your team. As without them, you are powerless to implement.
