We start off on point six about becoming a digital nomad.
6. Become a Digital Nomad
If like me you want to work in different environments and surroundings then an offline business may stifle you. Being locked to the same location / office day in day out can be pretty depressing. An online business gives us all the opportunity to become ‘digital nomads’. Through the power of smart phones, tablets and laptops you can run a successful business empire from a hipster filled coffee shop or a tropical sandy beach. Don’t forget that benefit when you start things up. It is one of the many steps to achieving a “Work to Live” lifestyle we all deserve.
7. Create Loyal Advocates
There is no point in starting a business just to please yourself. You start it because somewhere out there is an audience of folks who want or need what you are selling. An online business brings with it the potential to create a loyal group of advocates for your product/service. As we become more connected we build out personal and corporate networks where we share every facet of our lives. These social networks bring a superb opportunity to influence those with influence.
Imagine that every industry has a range of people who others look to for advice or trend setting. If you can persuade even a small percentage of these influencer to back your business then you can really increase your reach and potential sales.
With thought out customer service and you can create a customer centric online business that leads to your very own group of advocates. All of them ready to defend your business to those naysayers and spread the word at any given opportunity. Nothing is rarely as satisfying as seeing happy customers telling potential customers how great something you made/did was.
8. Maximize Time, Validate Ideas
In less than 24 hours you, as an entrepreneur, can
- Think of an idea,
- Create a minimum viable product / service,
- List the product / service for sale online with a global customer base,
- Receive instantaneous user-feedback,
- Then modify and adjust your offering based on the feedback!
This is a brilliant example of the efficiency gained by an online world but can lead to businesses popping up all over the place with very little thought behind it.
Validation of your idea by people actually willing to pay for should be priority #1 for all potential businesses. Too many entrepreneurs begin with an idea for a product they think people want. Spending months, or even years, making sure the product and business are perfected without ever testing or even showing it to a potential customer! The Internet has given you the perfect platform to do just that.
Even if the feedback is not what you wanted to hear, imagine how much worse it would be hearing it after spending £000’s on developing the whole thing.
9. Access a wider network of clients and buyers
As an offline business the chances are you compete within a specific geographic region or nationally with other businesses offering the same service. You may also really struggle to compete with the goliaths of your industry.
Starting or transitioning your business online will give you access to a much bigger pool of clients and buyers. No longer are you competing against others solely in your area for the same small number of customers. Instead, you’re free to think as big as you want. This could mean accessing buyers a few towns away from your own or “going global” in order to expand your business’s reach dramatically. Many of the online advertising platforms can help you target precisely who you want where they reside opening up vast potential for those that dare to think outside the restrictive box.
10. The Perfect Time is Now
Thinking about starting an online business? There is no time like the present, particularly if there isn’t a business like yours currently trading online. If you’re waiting for the right time, then only regret is guaranteed.
How many business websites do you need to see launch before you get out there and create your own? Stop being an online consumer and become an online producer. Those focused on building something bigger than them are the ones who stand to gain the most. They are the ones that can sit back satisfied knowing they made the digital world work to make them happy.
